A picture is worth a thousand words
Vulnerability, Isolation, and Poverty, affect many older people to different degrees,
and if we are to live in a society where older people are respected and enabled to meet their aspirations then these issues must be addressed. This is even more important during these difficult economic times.
The beneficiaries of the charity’s work have been:
Over 80 years of age (40% of our service users)
Over 70 years of age (74% of our service users)
People with a sensory or physical disability (49% of service users)
Occupiers of their own homes (60% of service users)
Female (70% of service users) many living alone and on fixed income.
In the year 2008-2009 we helped and supported approximately 25,000 older people in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
Here are a few examples of what your donations can mean to an older person
£25 provides an Exercise Class for older people once a week.
£100 donated to the Welfare Rights can generate an average of £6,300 of income for older people in poverty.
£200 pays for 100 isolated or vulnerable clients to receive a monthly phone call through our Telephone Link
£400 delivers counselling to 1 older person who has suffered abuse.
£500 trains 5 member of staff/volunteer to provide engaging activities in a care home setting.
£900 pays for hiring a community centre for a day/month to provide activities for isolated older people in the local area.
£14,000 is required to reimburse our volunteers’ travel expenses each year.
I could write reams about the valuable work Age Concern does but I think our video will demonstrate the plight of many of our older people and how your donation can help us to help them.
